Transform Your Practice
This comprehensive training program is designed to give health professionals of all backgrounds the scientific knowledge and practical tools needed to safely and confidently incorporate the cutting-edge principles of nutritional and metabolic psychiatry into clinical practice.

Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health Clinician Training Course
Public interest in ketogenic diets for the management of psychiatric conditions is growing rapidly, but there are precious few mental health professionals prepared to meet the demand for these specialized clinical services. While ketogenic diets have the potential to revolutionize psychiatric care, their use can pose unique challenges in the context of mental health conditions such as eating disorders, bipolar mood conditions, and food addiction, and when combined with psychiatric medications. This curriculum was created to prepare clinicians to anticipate and safely manage these unique challenges.
- Scientific underpinnings, clinical evaluation, risk assessment, patient engagement, dietary options, implementation, troubleshooting, case studies, and much more
- Psychiatric medication management in the context of low-carbohydrate diets for prescribers and non-prescribers
- 100+ pages of fully referenced clinical materials to support your practice, including patient handouts
- Opportunities to network with like-minded clinicians and learn how to grow your practice
New Hybrid Training Format
To make it easier for more people around the world to access this popular course, we’re experimenting with a more affordable, convenient, and flexible hybrid teaching model.
Effective immediately, everyone who registers for the course will begin by taking the course “offline” (asynchronously). In other words, learners will receive all video modules and printed materials to review independently at their own pace. Access to video modules will be available for 90 days and the printed materials are yours to keep. The fee for this “offline” program will be $750 USD (half the cost of the original live training series).
After completing the course, clinicians have the option of joining live online Q&A sessions to discuss the material. These sessions will be 90 minutes long, cost $90 per person, and be limited to a maximum of 6 clinicians per group. We will offer a range of days and times each month to accommodate multiple time zones and schedules. This new hybrid model is designed to improve access to the course while still allowing for the option of Q&A discussion groups, which is what trainees over the years have told us is what they love and appreciate most about taking the course live.
Note: this “offline” course is not CME certified yet; we are in the process of applying for CME accreditation for U.S.-based physicians (MD or DO), nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical assistants. We hope and expect to receive approval by March 1st. If you are seeking educational credits, please indicate this in the training inquiry form and we will email you when it gets approved. If you would like to enroll now, we will extend access to the certified version at no additional charge if it gets approved.

Upon completion of the course, all clinicians will be invited to join a private clinician support network so that you can remain connected to Dr. Ede, your fellow students, and previous course graduates.
Metabolic health is key to optimal mental and physical health.
It’s long been recognized that a properly formulated keto diet effectively treats metabolic syndrome, which is a key driver of many common chronic diseases, including obesity, cardiovascular disease, and type two diabetes. However, the equally significant mental health benefits—and how to achieve them—are far less widely appreciated. Interest in ketogenic diets for mental health is growing rapidly among patients, increasing demand for clinicians who are knowledgeable and skilled in these interventions. Learning how to safely and confidently incorporate ketogenic therapies into your work will help to meet this growing need, help to improve your clinical outcomes, and help revitalize your practice.
Tuition for this 5-module Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health clinician training program, including 100+ pages of supplementary materials is $750 (US). Optional live 90-min Q&A discussion groups for clinicians who have completed the training are $90 (US).

This program welcomes adult-focused clinicians from all disciplines including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, primary care physicians, psychologists, counselors, dietitians, nutrition therapists, social workers, and health coaches.
Although one entire module is dedicated to medication management you do not need to be a prescriber to benefit from this module. All clinicians working with patients who are following ketogenic diets need to be aware of important potential interactions between the ketogenic diets and prescription medications.
You do not need to have any pre-existing specialized knowledge about ketogenic diets to benefit from this program; it is designed to bring everyone’s knowledge level to the same high standard by completion of the course. Past course participants have ranged from beginner-level clinicians to clinicians who already have advanced knowledge of ketogenic diets. Those with advanced knowledge should only take this course if they do not already have specialized knowledge and experience regarding the use of ketogenic diets specifically for mental health conditions.
This program may NOT be right for you if you work exclusively with people under age 18, pregnant women, people in crisis, or people with underweight anorexia. The metabolic principles presented in this course are relevant to people of all ages. However, special considerations do apply when implementing ketogenic diets in growing children and teens, and Dr. Ede is not a child/adolescent psychiatrist, therefore she has no clinical experience with this age group. We do include some information about how ketogenic diets affect people younger than 18 years old, but this information is not comprehensive enough to fully prepare you to safely implement ketogenic diets in people under 18 years old. If you have any questions about whether this training program is right for you, please include them on the inquiry form below and we’ll address them in our reply.

Dr. Georgia Ede is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist specializing in nutritional and metabolic psychiatry. Her two-plus decades of clinical experience include twelve years at Smith College and Harvard University Health Services, where she was the first to offer nutrition-based therapies as an alternative to psychiatric medication. Dr. Ede writes about food and the brain for Psychology Today and for her own website, DiagnosisDiet. She speaks internationally about nutrition science, nutrition policy reform, and dietary approaches to psychiatric conditions. Dr. Ede developed the first and only medically accredited Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health Clinician Training Program, in which she teaches practitioners of all backgrounds how to safely incorporate metabolic therapies into their care of people with psychiatric conditions. In 2021, she co-authored the first inpatient study of the ketogenic diet for serious mental illness, and in 2022, she was honored to be a recipient of the Baszucki Brain Research Fund’s first annual Metabolic Mind Award. Her bestselling book, Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, was published in January 2024.
You can read testimonials from course graduates in the sidebar (desktop) or bottom (mobile) of this page. If you would like to contact clinicians who have completed the course for more information, a list of references is available upon request.
The course is quite different from the book—both in perspective and information. Although I hope the book will be a useful resource for clinicians, it is primarily written for the consumer, and in fact advises the reader to work with a clinician if they have any health concerns or take medications. The training is designed to give clinicians the information they need to provide support for the individual who is wanting to change their diet. So the training covers the science in a little more depth, including an overview of the current studies available on ketogenic diets for mental health, how to evaluate patients, how to talk with patients about considering dietary changes, potential contraindications or interactions with medications, special monitoring required during keto-adaptation, and more in-depth troubleshooting with the diet.
If you are not a clinician, I recommend starting by reading my book Change Your Diet, Change Your Mind, as it describes which dietary changes are most worth making and why, whereas the training program teaches how clinicians can support patients in implementing ketogenic diets specifically. If you have already read the book, and want to learn more about how to safely implement the diet, you are welcome to take the offline course to expand your knowledge. However, while the training provides information that clinicians should know in order to support their patients with ketogenic diets, clinicians will use that information in combination with their existing clinical skills and knowledge. Therefore, the training should not be considered a substitute for clinical guidance. Implementing a ketogenic diet for mental health can come with some unique risks and challenges and we therefore strongly advise working with an experienced clinician who can monitor and support you to keep you safe and increase your chance of success. You can search for practitioners who use ketogenic diets in their mental health practice in our international Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health Clinician Directory.
Also, please note that some of the material will be less relevant to a non-clinician (for example, how to talk with your patients) and non-clinicians are not eligible for inclusion in the clinician support network or in the live Q&A sessions upon completion of the training. If you have questions, please ask in the inquiry form below.
Group discounts are available for groups of four or more clinicians. Please indicate the number of clinicians in the inquiry form below and we can discuss your needs.
If you have any questions which are not addressed here on the website about whether this course is right for you, how you can arrange for private or customized trainings, or any other questions, please fill out the inquiry form below.
If you are interested in enrolling in the training program, simply fill out the brief inquiry form below and we will respond (typically within a week) answering any questions you might have and confirming the basics of the course. Registration includes reviewing and signing a training agreement and paying an invoice. These will both be sent to you upon confirmation that you would like to enroll. Note: due to increased interest in the program, response time may take a little longer. We kindly request your patience.

Testimonials
"Dr. Georgia Ede is a fantastic teacher. As a primary care physician, this course helped to expand my knowledge on the science and practical application of nutrition and mental disease. Fantastic, high level presentations and handouts. Dr. Ede is incredibly responsive to all questions. For questions she is unclear about, she looks up and provides the research answer. I especially enjoyed making connections with other members in my cohort."
—Christine Najjar, MD, MS, Primary Care Physician, Enfield, Connecticut
"I consider myself to have a good knowledge base in terms of implementing and trouble-shooting ketogenic diets, and using tools such as fasting. However this course was invaluable in terms of having a clear overview of the evidence base for use in mental health, and a framework for practical application when working with people with psychiatric disorders. I learned a considerable amount that will benefit my current practice, and it was refreshing to have the opportunity to learn directly from an experienced specialist when it comes to nutritional psychiatry. This was a thoroughly enjoyable course that I would recommend to any clinicians with an interest in incorporating dietary interventions to their practice. In my opinion, this is the future of psychiatric practice!"
—Rachel Brown, MBChB, Consultant Psychiatrist, Edinburgh, UK
"Dr. Ede’s knowledge on nutrition, scientific research, medication and human behaviors towards food is phenomenal, yet she condensed this into a very structured, practical, instantly applicable and ‘fluff free’ course. I have no idea how many 1000s of hours of research and nutritional psychiatry practice went into making the course, but she over delivered on value. Dr. Ede has a very nice manner and is beyond professional in how she conducts herself. I now feel confident seeing patients I would have avoided in the past. Dr. Ede’s handouts and patient assesment/monitoring sheets are worth the price of the course alone."
—Sara Pugh, Dr (Biochemistry), Hypnotherapist, Tower Clinic, Leeds, UK
"Dr. Ede explains the theory and science behind food’s direct impact on mental health in such a way that made it accesible to me and and allows me to easily explain it to my clients. I truly appreciated and learned from this course!"
—Kay Simmeth, LMFT, Marriage & Family Therapist, Los Angeles, California
"Dr. Ede is both a great instructor and an experienced physician with real life clinical experience. She brings these strengths to this class on top of the well-organized and structured content and creates an atmosphere for engaging discussion. Finally I was able to fill in some knowledge gaps! Thank you!"
—Polly Lysen-Halpern, ARNP, Nurse Practitioner, Seattle, Washington
"It was a delight, as well as an honor and privilege to participate in this comprehensive training with Dr. Ede, a leading expert in the field. Dr. Ede’s extensive knowledge of the topic, clear well-organized presentations, and genuine warmth and accessibility made this an outstanding clinician training. Highly recommend!"
—Diana Allen, MS, CNS, Clinical Nutritionist, Hadley, MA
"The Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health training course is a unique and amazing opportunity to learn about the science of nutrition and its powerful impact on mental health. This course provides the opportunity to combine science with the invaluable clinical experience of Dr. Ede, and thus be able to apply nutritional principles into clinical practice."
—Catherine Bouchard, MD, Clinique médicale de Sillery, Quebec, Canada
"Having a small group training experience with Dr. Ede was a wonderful way to expand my knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed the content of the training as well as the exchange with colleagues. I knew I would appreciate the science, but I was completely impressed with who Dr. Ede is as a person and professional. The case examples and time for questions and answers were most helpful. I highly recommend the training for other helping professionals."
—Kelli Ritter, PhD, LPC, FNTP, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Georgia/Florida, USA
"I highly recommend Dr. Ede's clinical training program in ketogenic nutritional therapies for mental health providers. Our clinical team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and psychotherapists learned a tremendous amount about the positive impact that ketogenic diets have on the brain and on mental health as well as about how to incorporate ketogenic nutritional therapies into our clinical practice. Everyone loved the training program and we were all extremely impressed by Dr. Ede's knowledge about nutritional science as well as by her extensive experience treating mental health patients with ketogenic nutritional therapies. A number of our clients have already made significant progress on improving not only their mental health symptoms but various longterm physical health issues as well. In my opinion, every mental health clinician should learn about and provide ketogenic nutritional protocols, as this can be a real game-changer for a lot of clients, and Dr. Ede's training program is the perfect way for clinicians to acquire the knowledge, tools, and resources to be able to successfully implement such protocols into one's clinical practice."
—Asher Adelman, MBA, FNTP, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and CEO,
Life Health and Wellness Center, Nevada, USA
"The class with Dr. Ede gave me tremendous tools and knowledge for my training of professionals. I can really encourage people I train to take this training. Extremely valuable."
—Bitten Jonsson, Leg SSK, RN, Addiction Specialist, Nasviken, Sweden
"Dr. Ede is the consummate professional. She has undertaken an extremely powerful, yet neglected dimension to psychiatry and healing. She has mastered the scientific and research underpinnings and applied them to her clinical expertise. Her presentations demonstrate this beautifully with solid and believable understanding of the science as well as a caring and empathic knowledge of her patients and their issues. A great researcher, teacher and a tremendous clinician."
—Doug Leonard, DO, Psychiatrist, New Jersey, USA
"I knew there was a connection between mood and food, but in this course, I understood why the ketogenic diet, as a dietary intervention, was so valuable for mental health. Now I feel more confident recommending this way of eating to clients who struggle with mood disorders and mental health problems."
—Eva Flech, FDN-P, Nutritional Therapist, Alicante, Spain
"This course exceeded my expectations! As a Food Addiction Assessment Interviewer and Recovery Coach, many of my clients are recovering from alcoholism/drug addiction and taking SSRI's, SNRI's, (antidepressant drugs) and/or an assortment of supplements. I was concerned some could be contraindicated with a ketogenic food plan, and the course provided me with information I could share with my clients and their medical professionals to guide them to monitor, taper safely, and de-prescribe where indicated."
—Jayn Steele, Food Addiction Assessment and Coaching, British Columbia, Canada
"As a Certified Primal Health Coach who is also certified by Bitten Jonsson as a sugar/processed food addiction specialist, I found this course helpful for me to provide accurate information to clients about the keto diet and possible medications interactions. This helps them take me seriously when I ask them to inform their physician about dietary changes."
— Anna Fruehling, Certified Primal Health Coach, Nebraska, USA
"Georgia is model of humbleness with a hefty dose of knowledge combined with genuine caring and concern for those she is engaged with, whether teaching, consulting or treating."
— Shannon Waliser, LICSW, MPA, dba Mind Body Wellness, West Virginia, USA
